With their time at the academy coming to an end for the second years on programme, these learners are currently making plans for their future beyond Sacred Heart. For instance, 2nd year student Adam Leach has received a University offer from Manchester Metropolitan University to study for a degree in FdSc Manchester City Community Football Coaching. Let's here a little more about that from Adam...
Why have you chosen to apply for that particular University course?
It looked really interesting. We had a representative from the University come to the academy to talk to us about this course and it sounded as though it was my type of thing. Its' remaining Football and Sports focused which is what I wanted.
How have the tutors at the academy helped guide you through the application process for University?
They have been great in guiding me through assignments and ensuring I am continually meeting my target grades to be able to meet the course entry requirements for University.
How has the education at the academy prepared you to progress onto Higher Education?
The course has given me the experience in working towards deadlines, in terms of time management and organizational skills, as well as meeting the standards expected of me.
Why did you choose to attend Rochdale Sacred Heart Academy?
My friends recommended this course, I was going to attend another local college however after speaking to them and hearing about Sacred Heart Academy I decided to come down to one of the trial days and have a look. I really enjoyed the trial game and I felt overall the environment of the academy was more suited to me; it felt more friendly, so I decided to attend from there.
Has your time at the academy been what you expected?
In a way, but then it has also been different to what I expected, I thought it would be one match a week and then the rest of the time would be spent just in the classroom working towards the sports qualifications. However, it has been a lot more practical than that- there has been Football everyday with training and practical lessons. Therefore in that respect it has been better and has exceeded my expectations.
In terms of the education have there been any modules or assignments which you particularly enjoyed?
Yes, I'd have to say the FA Level 1 qualification we did. That was really great! It gave us hands on coaching experience and a chance to get involved with everything, I really enjoyed it and I felt I learnt a lot.
If you had to pick an overall highlight from your time at the academy what would that be?
I'd probably have to say the last game we played as I scored my first ever goal for the Academy- it was an amazing moment and something that will stay with me.
