Our Courses

Onside Education offers the following courses as standalone qualifications. Learners tend to choose the standalone route if they wish to complete the qualification in less than 12 months or they may not be eligible for an apprenticeship due to holding a degree level qualification or unemployment.

At Onside we pride ourselves on tailoring the qualifications to meet the needs of our learners and delivering high quality training. We can offer flexible training with the expertise of our training staff.

During your training you will be appointed an experienced, friendly and competent assessor to support you through the qualification and review your progress to set targets, allowing you to achieve within the agreed timescale. Reputable awarding bodies accredit all Onside courses.

Our Qualifications

Multi-Skills Development in Sport

The qualification is designed to provide qualified coaches with an overview of the processes and principles of supporting child development through multi-skills.

Course Summary & Requirements:
You must be at least 17 years of age, hold or be working towards a minimum of a recognised Level 2 sports specific coaching qualification or equivalent, you must be 18 years of age to coach independently.

This will include understanding how to support child development through multi-skills via the practical coaching of linked and progressive multi-skills sessions.

This qualification is designed to provide benefit to you through the skills and knowledge required to enable you to understand participants and their needs, develop your knowledge of multi-skills development in sport which prepares you to demonstrate practical coaching skills in the context of the fundamentals of movement, fundamental movement skills and fundamental sports skills.

The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 2 qualification for multi-skills development in sport by UK Coaching. It is also recognised by and has the support of a range of providers including FE colleges.

Level 3 Certificate in the Delivery of PE & School Sport (Level 3 PESS).

Fitness Instruction

Fitness Instruction is a career choice requiring both considerable knowledge of the body and how it works and, above all, the ability to apply that knowledge within an exercise scenario. You will also need to be able to inspire and motivate others through effective and thoughtful communication methods.

Supporting Learning in PE and School Sport (PESS)

This qualification has been developed in partnership with the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and is supported by employers and the industry. This qualification aims to provide you with an introduction to a number of roles through engagement with physical education and school sport (PESS). These roles include teaching, activity leadership and coaching for young people. Whilst this qualification is delivered through the medium of PESS, you may use the skills in other sporting environment, under appropriate guidance. The learning that you will receive will support you in able to assist others in the delivery of physical education and school sport in a suitable environment.

Course Summary & Requirements:
There are no formal requirements for this course, but you need to be 16 years or older to enrol.

Course Content:
Principles of teaching Physical Education and coaching School Sport.
Principles of safe practice in Physical Education and School Sport.
Principles of child development through movement.
Principles of inclusion in Physical Education and School Sport.
Preparing for and supporting Physical Education and School Sport activity.

Course Progression:
Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of PE & School Sport (Level 3 PESS)
Level 2 Award in Multi-Skills Development in Sport.

Careers:
Paid or voluntary roles as a PE and School Sport supports coach
Teaching assistant
Children’s activity professional or a sports leader in schools, under the guidance and supervision of a qualified teacher.

Assessing Vocational Achievement

This qualification is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment).

Course Summary & Requirements:
Learners must be aged 19 years old or above.

Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment, Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment Assess Vocational Skills, knowledge and understanding.

Personal Training

This qualification is designed to equip Learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to personal train within a gym environment. It covers the mandatory units required by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) to achieve Level 3 Personal Trainer status and is a progression from the Level 2 Fitness Instruction qualification.

Course Summary & Requirements:
You must be at least 16 years old or 24+ years old for Advanced Learner Loans. You must hold the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction.

Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment Principles of Exercise.
Fitness and Health Know How to Support Clients Who Take Part in Exercise and Physical Activity.

Careers:
You will be qualified to join the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) as a Personal Trainer learners may progress to roles within gyms or sports and fitness centres or work on a self-employed basis.

Supporting the Delivery of PE and School Sport (PESS)

This qualification has been developed in partnership with the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and is supported by employers and the industry. This qualification further develops your knowledge and understanding of a number of roles on providing physical education and school sport (PESS). Whilst it is delivered through the medium of PESS, you may use the skills in other sporting roles, such as coaching. The learning that you will receive will support you in able to assist others in the delivery of physical education and school sport in a suitable environment.

Course Summary & Requirements:
You must be 17 years of age upon registration & 18 years of age at the point of certification. Be in possession of a Level 2 PE or sport-related qualification (examples include the 1st4sport Level 2 PESS, a regulated Level 2 Coaching qualification, or recognised equivalent or a Level 2 BTEC in Sport or related field)

Course Content:
Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults.
Understand child and young person development.
Understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young people.
Support assessment for learning.
Plan and deliver physical education and school sport programmes.
Review the delivery of a physical education and school sport programme.

Work as a PE and school sport professional, such as a children’s activity professional, sports development officer, sports coach, sports volunteer/leader, Teaching assistant.

Fitness Instruction & Personal Training

The objective of this qualification is to train learners to become occupationally competent to plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes. This qualification develops learners’ knowledge and skills to pursue a career as a personal trainer.

Course Summary & Requirements:
No formal qualifications required.  You must be at least 16 years old or over or 24+ years old for Advanced Learner Loans 

Course Content:
Level 2 Fitness Instruction: 
Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Safety, Lifestyle, Planning a Fitness Session and Delivering a Fitness Session.

Level 3 Personal Training: 
Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise, Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment, Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health, Know How to Support Clients Who Take Part in Exercise and Physical Activity, Applying the Principles of Nutrition as Part of a Personal Training Programme.

Leading Internal Verification

This qualification is intended for those who already work within a team of internal quality assurance staff.

Primary School Physical Education

The qualification teaches delegates how to understand the requirements of the Primary School Physical Education curriculum. It will help delegates explore the links between the principles of pedagogy and child development, and demonstrate how using a range of activities can impact on ‘good or outstanding’ teaching and learning within primary school physical education.

You must be working within a primary school setting and already have some experience of delivering Physical Education across all Key Stages, You must have qualified teacher status (QTS) or hold full time teaching assistant/higher level teaching assistant (TA/HLTA) responsibility.  

Delegates will also learn how to develop plans for units of work that cover the Primary School Physical Education curriculum and School Sport agenda, and how to use assessment to impact on learning and progress. Delegates will deliver, teach, evaluate and review the plans for units of work and will learn how to use the outcomes of those units of work to inform future planning. 

Course Progression:
Level 6 Award in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership.

Primary School PE Subject Leadership

This qualification builds on the learning of the Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism by teaching delegates how to lead sustainable development within Primary School PE. 

Course Summary & Requirements:   
You must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).  

Delegates must have successfully completed the Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education.  

This includes understanding the roles and responsibilities of a PE subject leader, being able to determine the quality of provision, and being able to design, implement, lead, review and revise a targeted strategy to develop primary school Physical Education and its sustainability.  

Course Content:  
One aim, which will be broken down into 12 delegate assessment tasks:  
Understanding Key Legislation related to Physical Education and School Sport. 
Communication and professional relationships with children.
Lead sustainable development within primary school Physical Education. 

Careers:
Physical Education specialist; Physical Education Leader within Primary Schools.
